Birth of the Revival

The Rugged Revival began with a simple frustration: some of the best music we were hearing wasn't getting the attention it deserved.

Independent Country, Americana and Roots music was thriving, particularly across the US, but there were remarkably few UK platforms getting beneath the surface — speaking properly with the artists, following the scenes and introducing that music to audiences on this side of the Atlantic.

So we built one.

What started as a podcast has grown into an independent music platform connecting artists, audiences and scenes across the UK and US.

Today, The Rugged Revival produces long-form interviews, original live sessions, editorial features, music discovery content and events, while working directly with artists, publicists, promoters and music communities on both sides of the Atlantic.

Our focus remains exactly where it started: great music, interesting people and the stories worth telling.

TJ & RONNIE

TJ founded The Rugged Revival and was soon joined by Ronnie, a lifelong Country music obsessive and quite possibly the world's biggest George Jones fan. Together, they built the kind of platform they wanted to see more of — informed without being stuffy, passionate without taking itself too seriously, and always centred on the music.

What We're Here For

We champion Country, Americana, Roots and the music that lives around them — Folk, Blues, Southern Rock, Soul, Bluegrass, Red Dirt, Honky Tonk and everything interesting that refuses to sit neatly inside a genre box.

Independent artists remain at the heart of what we do.

Some are playing their first shows. Others have spent decades on the road. Occasionally, you'll recognise the name immediately.

What matters to us is whether the music and the story are worth sharing.

We believe great music should be heard because it is great — not because an algorithm, major-label budget or follower count decided it deserved attention.

If it's good, we want people to hear it.

Made in England. Forged in America.

The Rugged Revival was created in England, but America has been part of its DNA from the beginning.

Much of the music we cover was born from places like Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Appalachia and the American South. Over time, those musical connections have become genuine relationships.

We regularly speak with and work alongside artists across the US, travel to the States, support American artists bringing their music to the UK, and introduce audiences on both sides of the Atlantic to artists and scenes they might otherwise never encounter.

That transatlantic connection has become one of the defining parts of The Rugged Revival.

We are proudly based in the UK, but deeply connected to the music, people and culture that continue to shape roots music across America.

Beyond the Podcast

The podcast started it. It certainly didn't end there. The Rugged Revival now produces original programming across interviews, live music, artist discovery, editorial content and events.

On the Road

The Rugged Revival exists beyond the screen.

We attend and host events, work with touring artists, spend time with musicians and communities on both sides of the Atlantic, and support opportunities that help good music reach new audiences.

From Wales to Texas and plenty of places in between, the relationships we build away from the microphone are every bit as important as the conversations we record.

Good independent music doesn't need saving.

It needs listening to.

Follow an artist you've never heard of.

Buy the record.

Go to the show.

Tell a mate about a song.

Support the venues, promoters, musicians and people keeping these scenes alive.

We'll keep doing our part — finding the music, meeting the people and telling the stories.

Welcome to The Rugged Revival.
